Becoming a Woman Painter and Decorator
At age 50 I became inspired to take up painting and decorating, I was frustrated from working on the computer, plus my 25-year marriage was ending and my well-being was suffering big time.
Painting and decorating was something I had always done in my own homes, I was wallpapering my bedroom at the age of 15, the reason was because my father had WW11 PTSD and couldn’t do it. I never thought about taking it up as a professional trade. But then I met another woman who had been successfully doing it for 25 years, she seemed very grounded and said her customers appreciated she was in so much demand that she could work 365 days a year if she liked.
Intrigued, I set out to become a professional, shadowing another painter and decorator and attending college.
At the age of 53, I launched.
I can honestly say that the physical effort, combined with the mental focus and overcoming challenges, as well as the creative aspect of this trade, has revitalised my well-being and provided me with a new way of life that I love.
Previous to this I was a yoga teacher and student for 17 years, a qualified life coach, an author and also an inspirational speaker. Presently I am also a W.I Speaker.
